“In a Free and Fair Election,” is a song I wrote a few months before the 2020 presidential election. The song is certainly political, but it’s also about growing up (or trying to).
In a free and fair election, Donald Trump will win
At least that’s what his advisor said
And his ex-advisor’s daughter, well my friend went school with her
And I almost feel bad cause she’s probably really nice, I just don’t like her dad cause Jesus fucking Christ he’s a
And it’s not that treachery is inherently bad, it’s just I got a bone to pick with this kids dad
It makes me both angry and really sad that the world ain’t as kind to other kids’ dads
They’re shot in the back or stomach or chest while this threat to our democracy gets house arrest
Now imagine your biology teacher died and his killer got the funding your school was denied
But the counselor’s here Wednesdays at nine
The counselor’s only here Wednesdays at nine
There are more corporations in delaware than people
Where I’m from the teachers can’t unionize and the black boys hung are deemed suicides
And the man who got us all hooked on opioids got 5 years time
And the man who got us all hooked on opioids got 5 years time
But at least I have a house and soon I’ll have a car, and I can play tetherball in my backyard
But I find prolonged existence increasingly hard and I don’t know what to do about that
No I don’t know what to do about that
